![]() The conversations filled Olivers knowledge gaps so perfectly. He asked if she had a new dog, if that was the reason her eczema was back. She had a dog (old one was ran over by a train), symbolizing it was past Jordana. In the last scenes of the movie we get a happy ending with him seeing her far away on the beach in a red coat. Oliver was going insane near the end of the movie, attempting suicide in his dream, getting more inclosed in himself. He knew it was the end, so his memories replayed multiple times of past moments of her while he was narrating. He had talked about a dream where he ran towards a girl in a red coat on the beach only to find out it's someone else. If he had chose his words better and showed how he felt more externally, he could've gotten what he wanted. The relationship was done for, especially when the film had almost ended and Oliver fucked everything up by saying ''so are you coming with me or not?'', showing that she was a necessity, something essential for HIS movie. His instincts knew what to do, but as we know we have two minds, and his second mind decided to let time do its thing. When she called he got overwhelmed, not sure what to do, and just slept through the whole perturbation. So Jordana breaks up with Oliver, because of multiple reasons, the most important one, in Oliver's viewpoint the only one, was him not coming to the hospital and comforting her.
